In the US, if you go to a passport center with proof of travel, you can get same-day service (or at least you could in the old days).

These days it takes 8-10 weeks. I believe you can get 6 weeks if you pay a bunch extra for expedited service, and even then it isn't guaranteed.

The State Department has made a huge mess of things with their "passport required for citizens re-entering the USA" bit. They pushed the regulation, but didn't do anything to prepare for the backlog.

Yeahl, they didn't prepare very well for that.

But I'm not talking about the mail-in service where you go to the passport acceptance office at your post office or etc. I'm talking about taking it physically to a passport center.

There are courier services that will wait in line for you for a couple hundred dollars. The regulations might be tougher these days than when I needed to use it though.
Here's an example:

Kaco (AF) says his friend is bringing a tv camera. Not exactly sure what that means/looks like. They are Slovakian, though.

As of a year ago, I did it in 5 days. Fed Ex'd in the completed forms with a Fed Ex return envelope, total processing time was 3 days. Got help from the local county court house for about $120+. Can't be sure if it was due to my SSN or the fact that I'm in the western half of the US, but my paperwork was sent to the San Francisco office. The eastern side of the US is handled in New York, I think.

RWD 716, you gotta take your paperwork to Seoul. Get with your legal office.

So it's two days before I leave and I got this brilliant idea. I realized that If I put myself on a Paris time sleep schedule, that I can treat my teaching as a night job, sleep almost as soon as I get home, wake up around midnight, and it all works out. So hopefully I'll be able to condition myself in advance so I won't have to deal with any jet lag on my free day in Paris.
