Default RIP Olivia Newton-John

Olivia Newton-John was a popular singer in England before she hit it big in the US. Her songs were often folk music or ballads. I particularly remember a ballad she sang called "Banks of the Ohio." This song, author(s) unknown, has been covered by many singers over the years. Her version of this song was released in 1971, and was a #1 hit in Australia and #4 in the UK.

She was the contestant chosen to represent the United Kingdom in the 1974 Eurovision song contest. She sang a song called "Long Live Love," and came in fourth in the contest. The winner that year was Sweden, with the song "Waterloo" performed by ABBA.

I remember listening to Olivia Newton-John as a teenager and loving her voice.
I lived in England at the time. When I was 13, someone told me that I looked like her! That was not actually true, but it was a compliment I cherished as a young teenager.

As her popularity soared in the US, I read in the newspapers that she had a big hit there called "Have You Never Been Mellow." This was long before YouTube and the availability of music on demand, of course. I was desperately anxious to hear that song. But I didn't get the chance till several years later, when I finally returned to the US. Then, I was able to find and listen to all of her later music. Her voice was always beautiful.

RIP, Olivia Newton-John. You bought a lot of joy and beauty to this world.
