Finally got fed up with copy and paste translations
Got Rosetta Stone and started lesson one. Well scored 73 the first time through. Second time through the lesson I scored a 93. French doesn't seem to be that difficult to pick up. Funny how much we use and hear certain words in every day life such in movies and television shows that we can recognize the word and it's meaning in English.
Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to read the lyrics and know exactly what they mean. Hearing the words sung in Alizée's music is still going to be a lot of work for someone who hasn't spent time around people speaking French as a first language. Last edited by ALS; 11-27-2007 at 11:19 AM.. |

I have one complaint with Rosetta Stone. It seems the CD spins almost constantly, which shouldn't be necessary. I believe it literally wore out one of my drives. I had to replace it. I have a feeling the software itself hasn't been updated in a long time.

It is one of those programs that has a long life expectancy. The pictures I'm looking at seem to be at least 10 years old. Language is something that doesn't change much over a decade.
I thought that it installed the program on my HD. Wrong, I just have a really quiet disk drive on my laptop. Last edited by ALS; 11-27-2007 at 05:45 PM.. |

make an image of the CD and mount the iso and you won't need the CD.

I skipped way ahead today in my Rosetta Stone lessons and was really suprised what i could pick out. Even the latest interview of Lili's I picked alot more out than before. RS is great if you don't have a lot of extra time.

A quick update:
I really amazed on how quickly I started to pick up on the words and meaning of sentences. What was most noticeable is I'm starting to think in French instead of translating into English first. That was after only 3 to 4 hours of running through the lessons. I'm doing an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. I'm also doing a separate sheet of paper with words and meanings. There are a few words I'm not sure of, I'm going to look up later when I get the time. |
