Default Champions League Thread

Who is ready for some Euro football? I know I am.

Looking forward to today's game against Inter VS Chelsea. Hopefully, it's not as lopsided as AC Milan VS Man U.

Well, Chelsea failed, but it didn't surprise me.

Champions league isn't rather very popular on your side of the Pond, I believe.

Today there are 2 matches (1/8):
Barcelona - Stuggart I expect easy win for Barcelona
Bordeaux - Olypmiakos comparable teams, but I count on Bordeaux

when it gets down to what i personally consider the 'nothing but elite teams' part. i will watch every match with no bias. just like i do with any other big elimination tournament.

Wow Chelsea are bunch of chokers....With all that talent they still couldn't get past Intern. Chelsea aren't even that old of a squad either. Murinho outwitted Ancelotti big time.

But the biggest chokers has to be ......................Real Madrid.

<object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/q3UswInK4to&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/q3UswInK4to&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>

I mean seriously $300 million worth of talent can't beat Lyon. That is just embarrassing. Real is my second favorite team and I was hoping this year might be the year where we win our 10th Champions League title. I could think of a MasterCard commercial for Real Madrid:

Cost of Ronaldo: $80 million euros. Cost of Kaka: $65 million euros. Cost Benzema: $30 million euros. Get knocked out by lowly Lyon: Priceless.

I seriously hope that my team Gunners doesn't draw Inter, Man U or Barcelona. I would not want to face any of these three teams except for maybe Inter. Looking forward to the draw tomorrow.

With most Americans, that is the case but with hard core football fans like me, we live for the Champions League, that and the World Cup.

I wish I could get into Euro football, but I don't have the time to watch the games, and that's really the best part obviously. Then there's the whole starting out as a noob thing lol It sounds so much fun, and I hope I can go watch it live someday. I also can't wait for the freakin World Cup!!!! I'm so excited!

So here are the quarterfinal pairs (official names):

Olympique Lyonnais v FC Girondins de Bordeaux
FC Bayern München v Manchester United FC
Arsenal FC v FC Barcelona
FC Internazionale Milano v PFC CSKA Moskva

Quite interesting draw, hard to tell which team will win in each pair
French two makes it very interesting for French fans, cause French team won Champions League once in history and they rather don't play well in CL.

Bayern - Manchester not to mention 1999 final

Arsenal - Barcelona, English youngs against Barcelona stars, interesting

Inter - CSKA, I bet for Inter, but CSKA will stand against them, they have good players to fight

Yesterday, there were also matches of European League, far more thrilling, 4-4 in Valencia - Werder horror, 4-3 Anderlecht - Hamburg, quite impressive scores.

But the most interesting match was Fulham - Juventus.

3-1 for Juve in first match in Itlay and goal by Trezeguet in 2nd minute for Juve could have answered the question, who will advance. But not for Fulham.
Zamora in 9', Gera in 39' and again in 48'; and it was 4-4 tie in aggregate, in meanwhile (26')Cannavaro from Juve get Red card. The pursuit ended, but Englishmen didn't stop. Dempsey in 82' and arrivederci Juve

This seems to be the year for homecomings. First, Beckham made his return to Manchester for the first time. Then Mourinho returned to Chelsea. Now, it looks like Thierry Henry will be making his return to Arsenal.

Arsenal vs Barcelona (rematch of the 2006 final) looks like the marquee matchup of the quarters. Man U vs Bayern (rematch of the 1999 final) should be good too.
