Default Books

Seeing as we have a thread dedicated to discussing movies, I think one devoted to books is very à propos.

So, what books have you read, whether it be recently or ages ago, that you really enjoyed? What books are you currently digging into? What books do you plan on reading?

I just finished Lolita. Could be the strangest book I have ever read, great though. Those Russians can sure write a book...Very disturbing books that I would be concerned if you could think of such an odd story line.

Oh geez, I hope you packed a lunch. I've actually tried to contain my list by including only my favorite work from each author/creator. In no particular order:
  • Don Quixote by Cervantes
  • To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • Microserfs by Douglas Coupland (Note: I think Lili would actually dig this one!)
  • Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
  • Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
  • Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
  • Fletch by Gregory McDonald
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
  • High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
  • The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
  • Obasan by Joy Kogawa
  • The Scarlet Pimpernel by the Baroness Orczy
  • Just A Geek by Will Wheaton
  • If Chins Could Kill by Bruce Campbell
  • French or Foe? by Polly Platt
  • Millenium by John Varley
  • Our Man Weston by Gordon Korman
  • Bone by Jeff Smith
  • Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross
  • Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud
  • Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons
  • Jimmy Corrigan, The Smartest Kid On Earth by Chris Ware
  • Maus by Art Spiegelman
  • Blankets by Craig Thompson
  • Blue Monday: The Kids Are Alright by Chynna Clugston

(Yes, fellow geeks, I know that Dune, The Lord of the Rings and The Dark Knight Returns aren't on here. That is indeed on purpose. Discuss. )

Recently I've read:

Manhunt - about the search and capture of John Wilkes Booth
The Lonely Land - by Sigurd Olson
Grant and Sherman

I like hard SF. I particularly like Charles Sheffield's books. I'm an avid reader and I read a lot of non-fiction as well as fiction. I have a huge collection of books, there's just too many to name. There are certain books I will read over and over again.
