Default Respect:

Quote:
Our inner strengths, experiences, and truths cannot be lost, destroyed, or taken away. Every person has an inborn worth and can contribute to the human community.

We all can treat one another with dignity and respect, provide opportunities to grow toward our fullest lives and help one another discover and develop our unique gifts.

We each deserve this and we all can extend it to others. - Author Unknown

Every once in awhile, there comes statements from others that enrage us, antagonize us or just outright dumbfound us. How we react to these statements says much about what we are like, as human beings. Do we value anothers opinion? Or do we only value that opinion (and person), which re-inforces that which we already believe (or believe we know)?

Do we welcome those thoughts and ideas that challenge our understanding of the world around us, and our perceptions of that world? Do we feel threatened by an opinion that differs from our own, or, knowing ourselves to be not perfect, welcome a differing opinion in order to learn more about ourselves and others?

We are all here at Alizeé America because of our love/appreciation of Alizeé and her music. SOMETHING about her compelled us to join AAm... A wish to "co-habitate" with each other, share our feelings and impressions, and learn as much as we each can from each other... For some it might be a wish to "belong", for others to "learn" and for others a place to find cool videos!

Whatever the motivation, I personally find it very difficult to believe that anyone joined AAm with the express intention of angering anyone else. I know that might go on "in the real world", but I would really *like* to believe that would not be the motivation for anyone to join us here...

What I guess I'm trying to say is this:

Regardless of how foolish, uninformed or downright WRONG someone else's opinion might appear to you, please address each other with the same respect and courtesy that you would want to be addressed with.

Thank you,

Ed

Thanks Ed, and well said ! It seems that people sometimes become disrespectful because they don't know how to debate properly. Maybe the most common mistake is that of attacking the arguer instead of the argument.

In any discussion, respect should be the primary concern. It's the only way to have a useful discussion when opinions differ. I for one, would like this forum to maintain that kind of reputation.

Debating respectfully, keeping an open mind, and respecting the opinion of others is a standard I've always been proud to live by and have kept in mind since I started talking with other people over the internet. Lashing out, swearing, and letting the insults fly is something I never do. I'd just like everyone to know that.

Furthermore I think there is a lot to be said not only for respecting the opinions of your fellow community members, but for keeping in mind that your opinion is only that - an opinion.

as per dictionary.com:

o·pin·ion:
–noun
1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal

That being said, it is very seldomly justified or correct and always rude to drill your opinion into the faces of those who will listen, and then insult the intelligence of anyone and everyone who does not agree 100% with your opinion.

I feel this is something people here should keep in mind while posting on these (or any) forums.
That is all.

That's a Jalen thing, not an Azhiri thing.

To everyone on the forums~
Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know I wasnt trying to put anyone down, I am not like that all I was trying to do was prove my point. I am under a lot of stress I just finished finals week (I had 5 finals 1 everyday of pure engineering brain rape-ness trust me) and I guess I just had a huge bug up my butt from it... I am not like that the real me is me acting like an idiot to make people laugh a lot of you probably know that. So eventually when i called Jake04 stupid which I shouldn't have done... it was just me losing my temper and letting all my frustration out cause I felt people were attacking me for my opinion for pages on end. My biggest flaw in life is I am very opinionated and I hate to be or admit im wrong... I am trying to change that about myself but its not easy! Welp this isnt easy for me to say... but im sorry if what i said offended anyone and I swear I was not trying to put anyone down. Hope you can accept my apologies and I look forward to seeing you all on the forums! Thanks edcognito for helping extinguish the fire!
Mike~

My apologies also to everyone for puting this forum on a bad light. I normally don't call people names. As I have told Ed, I was actually falling in/out of sleep at the time - not a good time to debate. Same thing when you're under stress. It makes us easily forget what we're here for. It made me forgot the "Alizee rule" - that is the assumption that Alizee visits this forum so we should not post anything that would hurt her or this forum. And as Ed correctly reminded me, at my age, I should have been the one setting up the good example.

Again, my apologies to everyone that I've offended.

PS: Sorry Aaronius31 for getting you thread locked. Don't worry, you still have over a hundred other threads, I believe.
(Just checked your profile and found out that you only have 31 kind of hard to believe with the number of your posts).
