I saw that too but the thread was closed. The guy who said that does not know what he is talking about, typical, making statements without any facts.

But yeah, France is indeed a member of NATO. So is Germany, speaking of which good luck against Austria. I have a feeling you guys will rout them.

It's all very well being 'in NATO' - but if they don't offer up their bases or a firm commitment of forces then saying you are 'in NATO' is next to useless.

Imagine if you are trying to plan convoy escorts - would you risk thousands of lives on whether French escort ships are going to turn up / be allowed to fight?

NATO as the name suggests is an alliance - it's not for dipping in and out of as you see fit, especially as the French did during the Cold War.

Most of europe watches our process of electing a president and laugh. To them it's like watching American Idol. It's more of a contest of personality than it is of the issues. Dispite that, I feel that we could benifit by electing Obama. It would tell the rest of the world that we have arrived.
