Default Les FrancoFolies de Montréal '08

Just wondering, is anybody going to this? 7-24 to 8-03, there are only a couple artists that I even know of but it seems like an interesting event. Anybody been to this or have any info for people that are interested? Please do share!

I believe espire was talking about this event a while ago...

Perhaps you should talk to him.

Here I am!

I actually don't remember talking about Les FrancoFolies, but there's no way that Toc De Mac simply made that up, as it would make sense for me to talk about them. There's also of course the fact that nobody has any reason to distrust Toc De Mac!

I am very interested in the event, and I had every mind to attend this year. However, things came up, and it turns out that I can only be in Montréal the week after. I'm still going then, as Montréal itself is still an incredible experience, no matter how many times you've been there before. So Les Folies ends on the 3rd, the day before I'll be there. Talk about bad luck with timing.

Anyway, even though I'm not going to be there, the event is going to be a great one. There will be a ton of great French music, and the top of it all (for me) would be a performance by Yelle. I missed a Yelle concert when she came to Toronto a few months back; It's very rare that a contemporary French-language artist comes from France to Toronto, so I was very upset to have missed her.

It's really a shame for me that I'll be missing the festivities this year, and Yelle for the second time! If anybody will be in the area at the time, it's a must-see, for the whole week.

...and there's always next year for me

Perhaps I'm just psychic, or you were accidentally channeling your innermost desires outwards?

Perhaps we have some intimate connection on a neural level. Say, were you thinking about cheese a second ago?

Hmm, well I did have a post open in another window by Roquefort, so I guess I could respond with a "yes."

I wanted to go this weekend, but don't think I can get away from work.
Anyone going, check out Andrée Watters' show Monday night. She was my favorite discovery at the festival two years ago.

i'm still considering going, probably 8/1 to 8/3. hopefully i'll get to see Melissa Mars on the first night and see Rose the next night. those are basically the only musicians i know but i'm sure i'll get to see other great ones.

question, are the paid shows (like ones around $30) a more of a small concert than a short show?

Come a day or two earlier to see Yelle. You won't regret it

For $30, I should hope that a show is more of a concert, but you could try emailing some coordinator of Les Folies. It has a website, so it must have some contact address.
