I think its a bit of an embarrassment! the lack of process, that is.

It's been 8 years, and there appears to be no significant process being made! The idea at first was an amazing one. The terrorist attacked us, and we'll rebuild and show those bastards that they can't beat us.. but 8 years later, damn bureaucrats have slowed things down ridiculously.

If you saw the scale and scope of this massive project you would know why it isnt going as fast as non engineers/ architects think. Even though the Freedom Tower (now called One World Trade btw) looks to be just started building the base and foundation is a 2 yr process, so if you look at it time wise 1 World Trade Center is half done and the memorial museum is set to open next yr. That is a lot of work for only *3* years *not 8* It was those yrs from 2002 (completion of the clean up) to 2006 (start of construction) that was the embarrassment not the current construction.
Also before I went back to buffalo for college i visited ground zero and those massive steel columns look even more massive in person, one of the biggest I have ever seen and I was drooling

oh all right. i was told that it was dying down cuz it had insufficient funding or something.

The Freedom Tower itself (One World Trade) no! It is being built as planned. Same goes with tower 4.
However, due to the slumping economy towers 2 and 3 are on hold. That means they will be built eventually just not right now.

^ 1 World Trade aka Freedom Tower (status: under construction) (tallest on site)

^4 World Trade Center (Status: Under construction) (smallest on site, but at 900 ft tall it is not tiny)

see.. here's the thing though, it looks like... the basement just got finished!

but then again i don't know crap about building stuff, so i'll just take your word for it.
and im a bit confused.. you showed me pictures of like 5 different buildings.

no thats the lobby which extends 200ft above ground, they are at 150ft above ground right now with only 50 more feet to go until they finish the lobby. The Basement is 70ft below ground so the structure's total height right now is 220ft tall. Second, I said this before man, completing the the foundation and lobby takes half the time it take to complete the entire building...............so if you look at construction by time wise, they are half done.

I showed you 5 buildings because those are all the buildings being built at the site! Now you understand how massive the project is.

yea your not the only one, thats why selling space in these buildings was a little harder than your typical building

BTW update, the east side (the one closest to you when you look at the link i posted) of the lobby is now complete with all the steel columns in place. Also north core's steel finaly matches that of the hieght of south core. In a week of two the entire lobby core should finally be complete. This is major progress.

So where are the jobs that used to be at the World Trade Center currently located?

Those buildings also look really tall. Is NYC going for the world's tallest skyscraper or something? Also wondering where they managed to find room for all of them. There can't possibly be much open space just waiting for development in NYC.

That’s why 9/11 was huge blow to the Finical District. 3 of the 5 towers are classified as “supertalls” meaning over a 1,000ft tall. The others are just under a 1,000ft at 900-800 feet tall. To put things in perspective, The Old Twin Towers were 1,353 feet tall, the Empire State Building is 1,250 feet tall and the Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet tall. The Freedom Tower will be 1,776 feet tall making it the tallest building in the United States when completed; taking the title away from the 1,454ft Sears Tower in Chicago (now called the Willis Tower). Unfortunately the Freedom Tower though when its designs were first released in 2006, it was supposed to be the tallest building in the world, it will never see that title now. China has quite a few buildings under construction that will break the 2,000 ft mark. Also the now almost complete Burj Dubai located in the city of Dubia, is the tallest structure and building ever built by man. Its official height has not been released yet; the architect has said it is between 2,300-2,800 ft tall and that it has the option to be made taller if its title as worlds tallest building is challenged. All that room that the new WTC complex is being built on is from the ruins of the old complex. The Old WTC Complex was a very big site, that not many people realize. Here is a pic of how massive the old plaza was

So no new land was set aside for the new construction, it is built entirely on the perimeter of the old site as you can see from the picture below
