I'm into dance music... so this is good news for me. I also hope this may open Alizée to some interesting dance routines.
my only concern is the usual junk instrumentation "dance" music has. I mean I like it in dance music, but I hope it doesn't cheapen Alizée's sound. Know what I mean? some of my favorite songs of her's is where her voice has the most minimal enhancing (Tempéte, Parler tout bas, Lui ou Toi, L'e-mail a des Ailes, À quoi rêve une jeune fille, Cœur déjà pris, concert version of Par Les Paupieres) while at the same time Laurant's rich instrumentation and sounds (remember: live back up singers) that add character and production to the songs (Toc de Mac, Tempête, Veni-Vedi-Vici, Cœur déjà pris). This is probably what surprised me about the music.. is the actually quality of the sounds.. hats off to Laurant... and I think thats what many of us miss: both an emotional and sonic depth to her music from the GM/MCE days. Sure I do like the Rockin' Lilly, and I think Par Les Paupiéres has a deliciously modern syrupy ballad quality to it, while Décollage went from my hate to love list. However her new stuff has a more shallow sound to it. I don't mean that in a bad way. perhaps the best way to say is that songs like Tempête and Cœur déjà pris reach a sort of operatic level at times. You know, this may be a stretch, however I really would love to see Alizée's voice reach a potential of depth and soulfulness, and see some of her songs evolve in the arena of Tempête and Cœur déjà pris... something I think plays the strength of her voice. To me I think she can pull off a more operatic feel... something that is lacking with "pop divas"... I'd like to see a young singer like her work on ballads that have a "roger waters"/"Pink floyd" quality to them that songs like Tempête and Cœur déjà pris almost hint of... I'm thinking "Dark Side of the Moon" and Water's "Final Cut" just a little taste Roger Water's voice blending into the sax at 1:55.. I would just say that it would be cool to see her do both. Please don't tell me you didn't see her sing La Javanaise with just a guitar as accompaniment. Yes, given the right implementation she can have a very compelling and beautiful voice/singing style or also as we've seen she can be a lot of fun in a concert. But, she does few performances of any kind; so, get them while you can.

Which brings back memories of a somewhat amusing story from the autograph session in Paris I attended back in December 2007. It was scheduled for around 6 or 7 pm. I scoped out the store late that morning then went to the Louvre. Big mistake! The Louvre is huge. Easy to lose track of time. By the time I got back to the hotel, showered and changed, there was already a long line in front of the Virgin record store when I got there. Lost out on meeting with Roman, and several other forum members. Well I had never really cared about any celebrity enough to go to an autograph session before, so I didn't know what to expect. I figured near the end of the line, there'd be a table where you could buy her cd and then have her sign it. I brought with me an autograph book and on one page of it, a fellow technician who was born in France and who used to work with me here in Boston, helped me compose a note, to her basicly thanking her for all the enjoyment she's brought into our lives and asking her to please consider coming to the states. Well after standing in line a while, I noticed everyone else had bags from the store. They were all taking these cd's and records of Alizée out of their bags and showing them to each other and the thought crossed my mind " You're suppoosed to buy the cd's before you get in line". By this time the line was very long. No way I was going to the back. I thought for sure I'd get up to the table and Alizée would think "this cheap American won't even buy 1 cd." I was worried sick for about an hour, but then it got to a point in the line where they let some other poor soul who didn't have any cd's, leave the line, go buy some and come back to the same place in line. What a relief it was to see that and that's what I too did. I bought a half dozen things. Wish now I had bought more, because the more you buy, the longer it takes for her to sign them, and the longer you get to gaze at this beautiful woman up close. So much for my first day in Autograph session 101. I'll know better next time. Sorry for getting off topic Ben Last edited by Scruffydog777; 10-20-2009 at 12:44 PM.. |

What I get from the suggestion of "dance music influence" is that the new album will have mostly songs that are good to dance to. I can't really see Her Grace doing anything cheesy. Songs from Psychédédelices that might fit the same description include 50/60 and Mademoiselle Juliette. Songs that certainly don't include the title cut, L' effet, Idealiser, PLP. Others might be borderline.
Re getting the album, considering that Psych depended on international sales that could be a problem for her and she might see what strings she can pull to make it easier to buy outside France. I'm not sure what influence she has, but it's in J/E's interest as well. I'll manage to get it as I've managed to get the other three and the DVD. I will not of course attend any autograph signing myself, as I don't want to meet Alizée in a fan setting. But I've managed to get the others and I'm sure I'll find a way to get this one. Still, making it easier for foreigners would be a good idea.
