Ooh la la, the numbers are not all that great to impress Team Alizée. When people hear of the chance to get an autograph CD, they come out of the wood works. Even if this is a hypothetical, it would provide a good base line. I guess this is simply a representative of active AAm members. Too bad the official site got rid of the Google Earth showing the number of registered fans and their geographic locations.

Yes, it would be ideal if they, Team Alizée, would host an event in the East Coast, Central US & West Coast. Heck, I live in one of the Western states. One could even argue a Canadian city. But you need to view the logistics through their eyes as well as expense-to-profit. Yes, they still seek to profit from the publicity like in any business. I simply mentioned New York because it's the first place I thought of when thinking of Alizée doing something, be it the first or maybe only one thing, in the US. Besides, it is the gateway to the US (in a historical sense) and it's not like it's her first time there (but I digress). If we want to give them any sort of incentive, we need to show them that we are willing to all show up at one place and provide them a number to see if it would be worth such a trip. You must admit that the N. American fan base is by no means as centralized as they are in Mexico, so there are sacrifices that must be made.

Well see here's the thing, we're being realistic about this.

Many of us are in school or have jobs that we can't just leave. I mean, if it was during break, I'm sure many more of us would be freed up to be able to attend.

Sure I'd love to say yes! Oh God would I ever!!! But... being in school and living so far away(if it is in NY), I can't say it's a definite yes. I'm sure as hell going to make an effort, you can bet on that! But seeing as how I'm planning to go into veterinary medicine, academics hold me back.

Yes, I was wanting a realistic response from people. I too have school and work fulltime so I know what you mean. You would fall under the "not sure" response as I would assume a lot of others too. But if we have a high "yes" to "no" ratio then this would prove to be a very useful figure to give them. Well, hopefully Team Alizée will give us plenty of advance notice if they do decide some form of an appearance is worth it.

There are so many forum threads at AAm, it is easy for one (like this one) to escape notice. But Ben has the megaphone needed for a REAL survey of all registered members: he can broadcast an e-mail, as he did for the CDs. Just because an American does not visit this site on any given week, or even quarter, does not mean he would not attend a concert if informed about it. (I was a fan of AJ for three years before I really looked at any fan site, let alone registered.)

It may not be the perfect metric for your concert-planning purposes, but one can look at from where hits come to AJ's Web site. I did that here. (You can even click on links I provide for current data.) At that time, there were about 23,000 visitors monthly, worldwide. I will now quote the "Web cookie" count for various locations then.

1928 US
_164 1st Biggest US direct marketing area: (metro) New York (8.5% of US)
_156 2nd Biggest US direct marketing area: (metro) Los Angeles (8.1% of US)
__53 Biggest US incorporated city: Phoenix (2.7% of US)
(Even Lima, the capital of Peru, accounts for more cookies than metro NY!)

5820 France
_749 Biggest France incorporated city: Paris (13% of France)

2982 Mexico
1209 Biggest Mexico incorporated city: Mexico City (41% of Mexico)

The Web visitor statistics strongly suggest this is so! Mexico City ALONE accounted for 5/8 as many cookies as the ENTIRE United States.

If you want to try booking AJ in America, again I suggest the strategy I offered above. You CAN'T rely on having enough AJ fans. You work on the FIAF base of francophiles, selling the NYC theme of UEdS to get your foot in the door. Then add some kids who are French language students, some Italian-Americans, some Hispanics, some gays, some arty types - and you try to fill the 400 seats they have. If you are desperate, you can even hazard a weird publicity stunt to entice the curious. There are not many options, because few Americans can name even ONE living French singer. Some might cough up Piaf or Chevalier, and AJ cannot hope to open for them.

I wish I could be more encouraging.

I think the best thing we can do for now is drive more AAm traffic to AJ's products sold online. As Christmas approaches, we can try e-mailing everyone, suggesting they buy someone AJ stuff for a present. I also think her new personal radio station has legs. I'd have us e-mail all registered users about it as well, preferably after a simpler address is leased for it.

Thanks docdtv, I shall spend some time looking through the data.

Wink Is this "child songnography" in North America?

In an earlier posting in this thread, I offered the opinion that:
There are not many options, because few Americans can name even ONE living French singer. Some might cough up Piaf or Chevalier, and AJ cannot hope to open for them.
I just noticed that Amazon's American(?) Web site offers a bestseller list, updated hourly, of various types of music, including in the cascaded category
Any Category > Music > World Music > Europe > Continental Europe > France

Amazon writes that Une Enfant Du Siecle [Import] will be released on April 6, 2010. But preorders are so strong it is already at #15 in the top 100! What titles are doing better, at least for now? (Among them I find the work of Piaf and Chevalier, as I had expected.) This may be a hint about US tastes concerning French music, which advise what numbers might be selected for a hypothetical concert.

Here then, in order, are some of the Amazon top 100 bestsellers:

Les Miserables (1987 Original Broadway Cast) [NOT in French!]

Songs in French for Children

Eternelle: The Best Of ~ Edith Piaf

Amelie: Original Soundtrack Recording ~ Yann Tiersen

La Revancha del Tango ~ Gotan Project

Lunático ~ Gotan Project

Celine Sur Les Plaines 2008 DVD ~ Celine Dion

Lara Fabian ~ Lara Fabian

5:55 ~ Charlotte Gainsbourg

C'est L'amour: Romantic French Classics ~ C'est L'amour!

Gigi: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Deep Forest ~ Deep Forest

Discovery [Vinyl] ~ Daft Punk

Comme Si de Rien N'Etait ~ Carla Bruni

Une Enfant Du Siecle ~ Alizee

No 5 on Tour ~ Mylene Farmer

(That's right - eat my dust, MF! )

It is interesting that the bestseller which is actually sung in French is a children's album. This being the case, I can think of the perfect song for Alizée to interpret! Even if you know no French, I bet you already know the melody. Listen to a sample of it play here.

Still don't know? Maybe a couple of hints by 19th century engraver Gustave Doré in Les contes de Perrault will help:

Quand je rêve aux loups / C'est Lola qui saigne

That's right, it's Grand Méchant Loup. And until now, I never knew how funny Mylène Farmer could be. When she wanted someone to cover Moi... Lolita, of all people, she chose the great-great-grand nephew of Gustave Doré to do the job - Julien Doré.

Doc, as a matter of fact I have been watching UEDS at the US Amazon, and it has reached as high as #3 in its category.

I posted this in another thread on March 19;
Quote:
UEDS is ranked accordingly in the following music categories; #99 in World, #62 in Europe, #9 in Continental Europe and #3 in France. It's ranked #1318 overall. Now these may not be great numbers, but consider that this is an Alizée pre-order album on an American site that sells hundreds of thousands of different albums. These numbers can change dramatically and frequently, but I'm not sure she has been this high in ranking before. Let's hope a trend is developing. A few days ago she was above 9000 overall.
So I don't know what this actually means in numbers, but every time something noteworthy happens in Alizéeland, the numbers tend to almost immediately improve, and then slowly drift back down. Regardless, I think it's good news.

That sounds GREAT! Thanks for cross-posting. I don't really comb the site often and appreciate your critical eye for what I write here.

In another thread, Fenris commented on some download sales statistics for Les Collines. Perhaps you might ask him from where he is getting those numbers.

Thanks also for making the helpful comments on the Amazon page selling UEdS.
