and 'Sabi, once you get into knowing more and more french actors and actresses you'll start jumping all giddy-like like an idiot (or me) when you recognize one of them in an American movie.
L'auberge espagnole --> Les Poupées russes --> Cécile de France --> Hereafter :O

I think Forrest Gump would be a good one too. Lots of American history in it.

How dare you insinuate that Forrest Gump is on par with candleshoeing Napoleon Dynamite!

Le Papillon is just one of those movies.... that you have to save for a seasoned foreign film watcher
I can hear them now... "WHAT? WHY DARN DULGUNIN DO THEY MAKE MOVIES OF OLD RAPISTS AND GAY BUTTERFLY HUMPING PEDOPHILES AW THAR IN EUROPE? IS THE WHOLE COUNTRY FULL OF FAGS?" But if you're looking to delve deeper in to watching the charm of French cinéma, you can't get much better than Le Papillon (the same applies for Delicatessen) BTW if you were to introduce someone to foreign films, what would you show them? I'd probably show them L'auberge espagnole or El Laberinto del Fauno

If you haven't seen it before, one movie you might like is Frantic with Harrison Ford in it. It was filmed in 1988 and directed by Roman Polanski. Best of all it was filmed in Paris. The other main star in it is Emmanuelle Seigner who was born in Paris.
The first half of the movie has a good amount of French spoken in it. Not so much the second half. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/upn9D12tEE0?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/upn9D12tEE0?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> |
