Don´t know much 'bout thanksgiving day, I only know that it has to do with a turkey, settlers and American indians -sorry for my ignorance- But what I do know is that this is a very important date for all American people, so I wish you have a wonderful thanksgiving day celebration... cheers!!!

I want to give thanks for discovering this wonderful community recently. Like a real famiily, we have our moments, but I wish *everyone* good health and a happy family.
I like to give thanks to Alizée's friend who signed her up for that singing contest, too.

Celebrating Thanksgetting (sic.)
Actually, all "we" good Canadians know that Thanksgiving was realy LAST month, right Ruro? You can make up your own joke about why the Americans celebrate it late.!
While throughout history there have been thanksgiving ceremonies by people who imagine the universe really listens to their expressions about the fate of not only mankind, but even their insignificant little tribe to boot, the US holiday celebrated today was the cunning public relations ploy of a political leader. He was heading into the year preceding an election most people thought he would lose, as his country was in the midst of what proved the bloodiest war of its history to this very day. Part of the irony was that he never joined any church, but was too savvy to bother people with any of the details of his Enlightenment-inspired notions. All that said, I think he was the closest thing to a saint who ever achieved his nation's highest office. I have always enjoyed a quotation unofficially attributed to him: I hope God is on our side, but I need Kentucky. His brilliant mastery of statecraft inspired the first prime minister of India to keep a bronze cast of the long-dead American's hand on his desk. We all have heard how Alizée's dad Jo, a fan of Madonna's music, would lead his daughter to look to her as a virtual mentor of sorts - until recent years, anyway. It so happens that a record-breaking $50 book by Madonna (which supposedly sold out its 15-million-copy first printing in a few days) inspired California photojournalist Peter Menzel to create a very different sort of book relevant to this thread's topic. In time, a copy of the latter, Material World: A Global Family Portrait, was acquired by an obscure public library and is reviewed here. Last edited by FanDeAliFee; 11-25-2010 at 07:22 AM.. |
