Way back there was an interactive map (on Alizée's site I think) where we all put our location and I saw another guy in my city and zoomed all the way in and he actually lived down the street in an apartment complex within at least 200 yards of me based on where he put his icon. We never said anything about it on here, probably because it might have been weird feeling obligated to hang out based on this similarity. I don't know if I ever saw him around the neighborhood since I wouldn't know what to look for. He stopped using the forum and I've moved since then.

I can imagine an awkward convo like, "hey man you want to watch En Concert?"......."ok well I'm gonna go listen to ML at my place bye."

Washington, D.C. (District of Columbia) is a piece of land cut from the State of Maryland at the border with Virginia. This was to give the national capital a place not under the control of any State. The land is administered directly by the Federal government.

As the USA is a union of States (which in the early days had even more power than they do now) as compared to a nation with districts, this action was considered to be very important at the time.

It was actually part of the general north-south compromise that had to be worked out in the early years of the republic. Support for something -- I want to say the national bank, but I could have that wrong -- was given in exchange for locating the nation's capital in the South, between Maryland and Virginia. (This made for an interesting dynamic during the Civil War, when the capitals of the Union and Confederacy were located quite close to one another.)

The State of Washington is something completely different. It's located on the west coast, while the city of Washington is located not too far from the Atlantic, so they're on opposite sides of the continent. The only connection between them is that both were named after George Washington.

And the State of Washington is a MUCH nicer place to live than the city of Washington. The climate's better, and, perhaps much more importantly, the federal government is a lot further away.
