On that thought, I'm not sure she's right to avoid potentially controversial topics, if in fact that's what she's doing (as opposed to sincerely having no interest). It never hurt John Lennon. It never hurt Madonna. It hasn't hurt Lady Gaga. A little controversy can be a good thing. Maybe it was the right thing to do when she was a teenage pop idol, but those days are gone.

Tweeting could just be a fad to her, someting you enjoy for a "while", or with some people it becomes habitual and I think that's what we hope for. If it doesn't, I guess we just hope she realizes it makes good business sense to keep her fans closer by tweeting on a somewhat regular basis.

I like her just the way she is, housewife, part time singer, charity volunteer, and stay's very far away from anything that is controversial.

She may have opinions on many subjects but by keeping those opinions to yourself gets you the whole pie to sell your music to. By taking a position that may not play well with all your fans your cutting the amount of pie you can sell to.

I understand the reasoning, I just don't think it's correct. (BTW she's not a "housewife.")

I guess the question is whether she avoids controversy because that was Mylène's advice back in the day, or because she's just not interested in politics, causes, etc. All of her activism so far has been for charitable causes rather than political ones. And if that's the reason, that's fine -- no point in doing what she doesn't want to do!

I'm just saying that as an adult rather than an adolescent the result of being somewhat controversial is different. Mylène's advice would have been sound for the Alizée of the Gourmandises or MCE era, but I don't think it is anymore. That doesn't mean she SHOULD be controversial, it just means she shouldn't AVOID it deliberately.

Politics and controversy is bad for business if you are not careful. Unless you have the same opinions as your fans, when does that ever happen, you're bound to upset someone. Furthermore Alizee's fans are diverse and not from the same region, country, or even same part of the globe; with a fan demographic of this lot she is bound to have conflicting views with a chunk of her fan base. She would be wise to continue to avoid these areas. As for what you said about John Lennon; I agree. Chapman is INSANE to the tenth degree, he was bound to kill someone!
Back on the topic of Alizee's twitter; I think it would be wise of her to talk about things other than female related topics to engage more people like previously mentioned.
