If your college math classes have a lesson on Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally...you've probably chosen the wrong university.

Just sarcasm. I guess it was 2nd grade when we had that all in school, multiplication, division and order. Since I started school at the year when I turned 6 years and learned those things before I left 1st grade it feels just "little" strange to read something like that here...

edit: It was already fourth class in school, if it was same than novadays..

big fail over here... I seriously had to look up what "Peano axioms" means..

Well I got 10 out of 15 points in Maths in my final exam (and I was proud!) but that doesn't mean I'm such a Maths lover... I even thought it was a joke when I heard the expression "happy numbers" and "unhappy numbers" in a TV show a while ago...

so... 1 and 9 are correct? Well there's no sign between the bracket and the 6/2 so normally I would say if there's no sign at all it has to be a multiplication sign... because in class when you work a lot with brackets you tend to stop writing these because everyone knows that there has a to a multiplication sign...

EDIT:

forget the last paragraph. I just realised I'm simply confusing myself. It is 9.

Well you're from Finland, they say you guys have one of the best education systems so ... you kinda prove my point that we here are lacking.

No one of the choices is not correct as for it violates mathematical convention ... it would be like saying 2+2*2 =8 (which it does not by the way; it equals 6).

Lets not get into discrete math lol
We are assuming regular integers here, any other assumption is incorrect!

I got one.

But apparently whenever I point it out a bunch of butthurt (or not) people try to convince me that PEMDAS isn't "real math" or whatever they sling.

We can see it this way.
Imagine 6:x(1+2) as x= 2
If u do 6*x(3) or 6-x(3) or 6+x(3), what would u do first? Isn't it obvious now? how could division be different from that?
Anyway, put the same format in a calculator, you will get 1

Exactly, when working with parentheses theres an invisible multiplication sign. 3(1+2)=9 in normal everyday maths.
