I disagree with him saying that Alizee never matured as an artist, at least I think that is what he is saying in the beginning. He has probably not listened to UEDS or 5.

I once heard a translator say that French can be difficult to translate into English because there are alot of double-meanings in French.

I wonder if the French pronouns for "him/her" are the same. In frequent translations I see the masculine "he/him" inserted for the feminine "she/her." It's not unusual, for instance, to see Alizee referred to as "he."

Though I had a couple of years of French way back in high school, I'm no expert on the language and it's not even close. If I had know 12 years ago, what an impact this beautiful young woman was going to have on my life, I would have made an attempt at learning it, but I didn't.

Still, I have learned many of her songs well and most of you know some of the projects I've worked on such as SAGA and DALS. In these cases, I paid someone who used to live in Paris to do the interpretations. But still, especially with the songs in these shows and some of the songs from her albums, a direct interpretation, right or wrong, wasn't enough. You had to figure out what the story was saying and I put a lot of effort into that and I think in most cases I got it right.

The most interesting case of whether a pronoun meant he or she was the song Idealizer. Idealizer was a song from her first album after leaving MF where people took it as being written in an insulting manner towards Mylene Farmer.

I took a lot of time looking at this song and the interpretations out there weren't that great in my opinion, but I looked long and hard at what the writer was trying to say and though I'm sure Alizee would never knowingly sing a song that was insulting about Mylene, I think the song's writer was directing it towards MF, though he said later on that it was about a woman he knew who had drug problems and later committed suicide.

Look at 'my' interpretation......
Lines directed at MF;
She is alone on the floor
flowing in alcohol
The veneer is cracking under the idol......
Powdered faces, dressed in silk

The next line talks about her leaving Mylene
That which hurts and we leave behind

Snow white exhibited to the archangels.....definitely a reference to Alizee. You can see a little smile on her face when Christophe sings that line.

Time is of the autumn. Just like with 'A Cause de L'Automne speaks of the 'fall' of a relationship, so this song speaks of the fall of the relationship between Alizee and MF/LB.

It's uncanny how in this song, the word 'Idealizer', sounds so much like Alizée and I think Alizée is what it is meant to mean. A double entendre, this one not created by Mylene.

Idealizer, but really Alizee, a broken past (I'm not sure what that is in reference to)

Now the next line is a perfect example of a pronoun that could have meant he or she. For this song, for this interpretation, I left the meanings as he, because I did not want the video I posted on YT to look like a dig at Ms Farmer.


Not realizing 'he' but really means 'she' is no longer there and I think it means Mylene Farmer realizes Alizee is no longer there.

"Idealizer", again meaning Alizee, makes herself beautiful backstage, planning to go away and not return.

The leap into the darkness which was exactly Alizee was doing by leaving MF.
"The small club kid" A reference to Alizee being certainly in comparison to Paris, the small town of Ajaccio.

"Does not love the day". I think this has to do with what I've heard about Alizee over the years. When Jeremy came into her life, it is rumoured he told her she should have been making more money and he told her about the deeper sexual meanings of her songs and when she found out, she did not love the day.

"Idealizer".....again Alizee, just supposes...."she dared everything". She dared everything by leaving MF/LB.

and then this last line was again one where I left a pronoun that could have meant he or she, but I chose to put it as he for a 'cleaner' meaning....

"and to him" which I feel was actually "and to her" and of course the her was Ms Farmer, and to Mylene she asked for one last kiss!

There's a line or two that doesn't seem to fit my story, but I do feel I'm right about this song.

I listened to the song before reading your comments and was jolted when Christophe sang "Idealizer" also thinking it must refer to "Alizee." I had heard Christophe sing this song before and was untouched by it; but with the translation, I find it very emotional.
