Ah, I think you're right. I suppose I was thinking further on for some reason and getting it mixed up with the MCE era. I think she clearly knew was she was working with by then, I mean, the JEAM live dance choreography is evidence alone lol

In this photo Alizée is cute. And this is a fundamental feature of a lolita. She had already great beauty but obviously she was just 15, so I would say that she was like a rough diamond. But don't forget she sang Moi lolita in Amsterdam and during Les enfoires 2001 less than 1 year later that photo, so...
In my opinion, Mylene just saw her as perfect for the song she had written. Then she proved to be a master in shaping that diamond. But I think that she was the first person on this planet to be surprised by Alizée's success. It was a mixture of talent (of both of them), perfect timing and luck. The only problem is trying to understand what the proportions of these three things are. As far as I'm concerned, I'll say almost equal parts. Maybe Alizée's talent could be the biggest factor, as we've seen later. But, as I said, in this kind of business talent isn't always the most important part.

At Graines de star she didn't have her moves and her charm on the stage yet, but her beauty was already there... It was already blooming.

Boudennat is probably the real genius, rather than Mylene.

Although it was Mylene who first saw Alizee on TV, it is possible that she merely brought Alizee to Boudennat's attention, and that it was Boudennat who saw the real potential in Alizee, not Mylene.

Although Mylene and Boudennat work together, I wouldn't be surprised if Alizee's image was crafted mostly by Boudennat. Besides being a composer, Boudennat is also a movie director.

Looking at Alizee below, can you tell that Alizee would turn out to be such a beauty? I can't. Alizee is cute, but I don't see more than that-- do you?? And if we can't see it as heterosexual males, I don't see how Mylene could have seen it.

I agree at 15, Alizee was "cute" but not much more than that. Referencing the picture you posted, she had a nice complexion but her look was rather plain. I'm going back in time to when I was 15, a sophomore in high school. Just for fun let's say Alizee was in my grade attending the same school and she wasn't discovered by Mylene or anything like that. I remember a number of girls in my grade when I was a sophomore who were extremely pretty and "developed" like the senior girls. Of course they got all the attention from the boys. There was nothing about Alizee's early look that would have made her stand out among the others, all other things being equal.

Oddly enough, some of the prettiest girls in my sophomore class didn't look as pretty as time went on. The "late bloomers" only got better looking as graduated high school and went through college. Alizee falls in the camp of "late bloomers," and what happened to her in her late teens can only be considered remarkable. Just when you thought she couldn't get more beautiful, she did.

There was no way Mylene could have predicted this. I'm not sure about it being because Alizee looked like a Lolita, because what does one supposed to look like? Good looks doesn't mean certain success in the music industry.

Maybe it was Alizee's ability to dance that drew Mylene to her? Even if Alizee turned out to be average looking, incorporating dancing into her performances might give her an advantage.

Maybe it was because Alizee was Corsican? The mainland probably ignores the island for the most part, and the introduction of this cute girl from Corsica coming from humble origins might be a curiosity.

I wish Mylene wasn't so private and would be willing to answer the question about what she saw in Alizee at that time.

If I remember correctly, I just asked about Greg's feelings at the beginning of the show. I had a couple of answers and there was also a video posted by imverynuts and translated by bebert where Chris Marquez tells exactly what I wanted to know.

Sure! Also you and anyone else who wanted these are very welcome. I figured we would be able to learn from this show, things about Alizee that no other show would give us such a great opportunity to, so I had to pay the price of getting these translated.
