![]() Graduated HS in spring 2000, went straight to college. Majored in Theatre: Acting with a minor in Philosophy, graduated spring 2004.
While that's still what I like and hope to pursue, I am earning my living in a completely unrelated field :-/ Been in my current job since fall 2005.

![]() I also graduated HS in spring 2000
![]() Since then I've been working as a substitute teacher, mainly long term positions (which tend to actually 1st-year teacher's pay but with higher take-home 'cause I'm not paying into benefits). Last spring I taught all of the final quarter of 4th grade. This school year I started with some odds and end subbing but I spent last quarter teaching 8th grade math/langage arts and I'm already to teach 8th grade earth science for all of spring quarter this year.

![]() Hmm, studying Computer Science and you are located in Nova Scotia, would I be right in guessing your at Dal? I remember my first couple of years at NSCAD when I lived in residence at Dal (well it was still DalTech at that time, now it's Dal's Sexton campus), it proved interesting because most people assume you go to art school because you were bad in school and especially at math, but I had taken University prep classes in Calculus and other subjects as I was planning on going into engineering but decided to study fine arts instead, so it bugged the hell out of some of the first year engineering student's that I(who was supposed to be a stupid art student) knew how to do most of their homework and they didn't (until they eclipsed my knowledge around midterms because I wasn't in the class). Still not sure why I switched, made the decision before I even went to University, but it was something always asked by a friend from high school (who always got annoyed if I beat him at getting the top grade in any of our high school math/science classes, every time we crossed paths while he was studying for his Masters and PhD at Dal) and it was a question I never really could answer. For the first few semesters I often thought about switching back but it would have involved completely changing schools, not just classes because I was at a school specializing in the arts and not just in a Fine Arts program at a regular University. Probably would have had an easier time finding a steady job if I hadn't, but attempting to be creatively self employed has it perks, as well as cons.

As for me, i went straight to work untill i decided what to do... thought i wanted to be a photographer, thought about the military, thought about wasting my money on college while i think about it. Then just recently i realized how much i hate being stuck here so i hit the books of my family's tradition, and it looks like i'm headed into flightschool soon. Lucky for me, it doesn't cost that much since my old man passes as an instructor. Oh right!

![]() I took an year break after high school not because I was working but because we had huge chaos over admissions in my city in India. So during that year I decided to come to US and finally landed in Seattle(UW). Currently I'm in my Junior year doing EE(I knew I was going to do something like that the day I was born in India). So if you are atleast clear which sort of field you want to be in(eg, engineering, or history, economics related, etc) you have enough time in the university to decide your specific major.
Btw, I am sophomore in my second major, Alizee! I intend to do my Phd in this major as well but I am not sure if I will be able to finish it in my lifetime. fact: This post is my longest post in last 4-5 months! |
