They still do. The UN go nuts at us for it, as they try to give the Africans a row for having under 18's in their armies.
Pretty sure a few 16 year old Brits died down the Falklands in 1982. Nowadays they dont get deployed to 'hot spots', so shouldn't get mangled till they are 17. Although you can't really set an exocet anti-ship missile to 'child-friendly'.
Didn't serve with Nelson, but his dad was a right b*astard.
