Our new French teacher at school is going to have us watch a few films this year, but I think we're only allowed to watch movies that are PG-13 and under.

Romance (1999) Starring: Caroline Ducey / French with English subtitles

This movie is about the erotic tale (not porn...though some flesh is shown) of this one girl who is not fulfilled sexually with her b/f...so she sets off on this numb, detached escape in order to find that something she needs.

I wont' tell you about the movie any more than I have, but I will tell you what the movie was to me.

I had a French g/f .... not the first I ever met, but the first I ever dated and hooked up with. She was different somehow to me. I have always considered myself a free-thinker and a free-spirit, but she changed my view on relationships like no one ever has. I was a bit conservative in the relationship policies department and she really opened my mind to viewing things differently without tripping over it.

To make it short...all of the mannerisms that I thought were unique to my g/f's personality, came to light in this movie. She was not unique at all, but very much a product of the French mystique. In this movie I saw a mirror image of my g/f ... philosophy, approach, language used and all (how they view relationships and sex...and that they are not one and the same).

This girl even looked like my g/f. I was floored, but all the wiser for it. Very interesting art-house style movie. You'll just have to see it for yourselves. Not sure how woman (at least non French woman) would view this movie, but from a male perspective, it actually explained my experience.

These are just French movies I've enjoyed recently, no other standard applied.

"Amelie" - just wonderful (the movie and the forum member)

"The Widow of St. Pierre" (2001) - rated R, Juliette Binoche and Daniel Auteuil

"The Girl on the Bridge" (1999) - rated R, Daniel Auteuil and Vanessa Paradis

"A Very Long Engagement" (2004) - rated R, Audrey Tautou and Gaspard Ulliel

Not all French, some German, Dutch, etc.
"The Memory of a Killer" (2005) - rated R, Jan Decleir and Koen De Bouw.

I'll have to try to find something with less than R rating.

Remembered a PG-13 movie
"The Dinner Game" (1998) - Rated PG 13, Thierry Lhermitte and Jacques Villeret. A comedy and at 81 minutes would be good for a school class.
