Not necessarily. According to that she was there quite awhile ago. Plenty of time to add stuff. I dunno, I wouldn't be surprised either way if the final song is really different or almost exactly the same.

Edit: Though the minimalism is one of the things that makes it sound Daniel Darc-ish to me...

I'm hopeful its a remix or a rough cut missing some instruments and equalization. The vocals are great (I'm sure I'll get a lot of arguments there) but IMO the synth bass overwhelms them. This song's got a lot of potential, but could be so much better and more interesting. Jeremy's music tends to have more complex arrangements, so it doesn't seem consistent with his other work.

OK - you can all egg me at once now.

I don't know what you all mean it doesn't sound too much more synthesized than a lot of stuff I've heard before both from alizée and all sorts of artists

The MJ I've heard on YouTube (I don't have the mp3) has a stronger and heavier (i.e. more bass) synthesized sound than her previous album work. However, it's about on par with some of her previous mixes. For instance, compare the J'en ai Marre Soft Skin Club Mix with the original J'en ai Marre.

While I like the mixes for a change of pace, I think they take away from the subtleties of Alizée's voice.

I don't really mind either way. If it's a mix, then freat, we'll get a nice suprise come release, if it's the single, great, we get something we love.

I do agree the song is very synthesized, and does anyone else feel the drums sound very much like a midi drum set, rather than a live pair? That, maybe, they used a loop, rather than actually playing the beat?

It's not uncommon to record just the rhythm section and then put in all the vocals. The sweetening is then added later. If you put everything in before the vocals, some of the sweetening may cover or crowd the vocals, and then you have to start cutting things out.

When you're paying the hourly rate of a world class studio, the last thing you want to spend your money on is recording a bunch of sweetening tracks only to leave them out later. It's often better to add the sweetening judiciously after the vocals are in.

We may be hearing a version of the song that is only part way through that process.

i thought signing with a record label company meant access to a world class studio as much as the artist wants, with the stipulation that the recording will be used for sale to customers.

some of the studios in my area charge, i think, several hundred dollars an hour. but that's for artists who are doing everything on their own without the help of a marketing company.

edit: espire, i hope you're correct in the sense that we'll hear something even better.

Much if not all the money spent by the record company has to be recouped from the artist’s royalties before the artist starts to get a check. Break even can require sales of up to 250,000 units. These people are in business to make money, not give it away. The longer the artist sits in that studio, the higher the bill is.

But since Alizée was working on this recording while under her old contract, either she picked up the tab or her new record company had to pay off the old record company. There are probably other scenarios but I think these are the most likely. I'm guessing Jeremy's production company may have foot the bill, but I don't know.
