In reply to MesGourmandises:
Are you kidding me? Mylene's songs were LOADED with double meanings and plays on words. To say that: "Her songs were "catchy" back then, but that is ALL they were. No meaning, no message, no complexity, it looked good on the outside, but it was an artificial mess on the inside." is just absolutely wrong. |

I understand the feelings of some of you guys who don't think very highly of the new album. It's a new direction like MesGourmandises said. The first two albums were essentially designed to make a quick buck for the producers and writers and give Alizee a chance to make a sort of first impression on the public. Doesn't mean that it wasn't good music. But now that she has done that, she can go on to something deeper. Don't get me wrong though, I love her first two albums just as much as I'll probably love the new one. Even the so called catchy songs would have been much less likable if they performed by someone other than Alizee.

All I was saying is that if you liked her songs back then, and not now, then your pretty much just liking mylene and laurent, not alizee's music. But we all like, nay, love, alizee the person. |

Expressing yourself is all well and good.
But by god... lets have some of the old style back You can't fall in love with this new stuff. Express yourself. Fine... Great. But lets have some catchy cool tunes as well. 50/60 & M. Juliette = v. good. |

OK, so I'm not quite alone here. I didn't think I'd know how to say it, but I can't really get into these songs. If I were browsing these at random on iTunes or something, I don't think I would have given them a second thought. Hard to tell. Maybe Jamais Plus, possibly Lonely List and Idealiser. Honestly, it's kind of quelled my enthusiasm for buying the album. I suppose I will anyway... I'm happy for her that she made the album that she really wanted, I really am, and I wish her and the album the best of success. I'm just not much of a fan of this sound (maybe it's the instruments too, I like synth-pop/orchestral trance sounds more than the rock drums and guitars). And MesGourmandises, besides what others pointed out regarding your take on the lyrics/etc. of the first two albums, I have to say I find the first two albums to have lot more melodic "movement" in their songs; the first things that struck me about 50/60 and MJ were how static it seemed that their melodies were (e.g., she sings the exact same notes at the beginning of MJ like 8 times). I guess Jeremy's songwriting just doesn't excite that particular center of my brain the way LB's sweeps and progressions did. This is of course just my taste, and maybe some of it will grow on me. But oh well. |

She does have a couple songs on the new album that are very similar to her style in the first two albums. Just listen to samples of Idialise and the Taxi song.
