I'm definitely aware of the difference between French and Corsican, which look and sound almost nothing alike. I've heard though, that sometimes Italians and Corsicans can at least understand each other's spoken languages, because there are enough similarities. Is that accurate? I know they are different languages, but are they similar enough to allow that? I've successfully translated at least a couple small Corsican phrases using my Italian dictionary :-)
