I remember it vividly. Living on the West Coast, I'm 3 hours later than New York time. So the attack had happened already by the time I woke up. The woman I was living with then checked her email and found a message from work telling people to go ahead and come in, that there was no local emergency, but it didn't say anything about why there might be one!
So I told her to go to Google news and that's when we discovered the attack. Then we turned on the TV, called relatives and friends, and were just in shock for a while. I remember thinking I now understood how people must have felt after the Pearl Harbor attack, because I went really bellicose. 9/11 turned me briefly into a warmonger, and (even more briefly) into a Bush supporter. I wanted to kick some ass. It was amazing, too, how all the conflicts within the U.S. and between the U.S. and other countries got temporarily suspended and everyone pulled together. Of course, that good will was all to be squandered down the road. It was one of those "never forget" kind of experiences. Quote:
Might be a family trend; my father's birthday was December 7.

yeah it was my senior year of college, when i woke up to get ready for class i turned the tv on, and they were talking about an accident where a plane hit the WTC. Then about 20 seconds later, I saw the 2nd plane hit live on TV.
It was really strange. A lot of people don't remember now, but it was really crazy for about 2 weeks afterwards too. With all of the Anthrax letters that were found in the mail, they canceled classes at my college for weeks because of some of the professors received letters that had a strange powder in them. People were throwing away their mail for months, everyone got really paranoid. It wasn't pretty. |
