Well I had said in the opening of this thread that unfortunately this Greco Roman theater is too far out of my route of travel to visit. In the course of finding out where this site in Italy was, I stumbled across this information and thought others would be interested. I wish I could go there. What a beautiful setting this is. With Mt Etna nearby. It would have been awesome to have seen Alizée perform there.

I'm pretty sure that the blonde girl spoke some Italian when she talked to Alizée, I think she replied in french though.

I've heard that Alizée does understand/speak some Italian, anybody knows if this is true?

I don't exactly know if she learns Italian. But
French and Italian are very similar and have many common words. Italian in pronunciation is more similar to Spanish, but gramatically is closer to French. Understanding a bit of Italian for average French speaker isn't too hard, but speaking is a bit harder. After some learning it shouldn't be a problem.

It's just like with Polish and Czech, I can understand a lot of Czech words and expressions, but I can't speak it

Maybe you can judge for yourself how well Alizée understands Italian by watching this video.

Cool Upon further review!

My original plans did not include a trip down to Corsica, but I ran into a snag in those plans which made me take a closer look at going to Sicily. One thing I didn't realize is that island is a lot closer to the mainland than I thought and there are ferries that go back and forth on a regular basis, plus the cost of a round trip train ticket is about $124.00, so I might make it down to that Greco-Roman theater after all.

Cool Day 2 in Italy

It’s just day two of my vacation in Italy and already I’m seeing things that remind me of Alizee every place I go. The first picture is of a hotel right across the street from mine in Rome.
The second is a map of Corsica that’s on a wall in a hall leading to the Sistine chapel in the Vatican.
The third is a poster I saw at a gift shop when I was walking around. I’m sure most of you know it is a picture of the main character in the movie Amelie of which Alizee’s song Amelie m’a dit is based.

The fourth is just one I took of one of a couple of fountains I saw in Rome in which I tossed a few coins to wish her luck with her new album.

Cool

Rome seems a little more run down and the streets aren't quite as clean but it's still a beautiful city. Great place for walking around. I don't speak a word of Italian, but there are usually enough people around who speak English or at least can help you out when you're lost as I often am.

The smaller towns remind me a lot of the ones in France. Narrow winding roads, many of cobble stone. Old and many historic buildings. Just beautiful to see.

Right now I'm in Pistoia, the place Alizée performed in Festivalbar in 2002 and 2003. Another beautiful town. I spent a lot of time last night, in the square here, watching her 2 performances here on my netbook, trying to get a feel for what it was like.

I thought before coming here, "What's the use?, what happened here is ancient history, it can't even approach the feeling of what it was like to be here back then." But I think it'll be well worth the trip. I was watching the videos again this morning and it just seems to have added that much more to my enjoyment of watching them, after having actually seen this place. It will be disappointing when I have to leave this morning. I'll hopefully post a couple of pictures when I get back to Rome, later on today.

Can't wait to get to Taormina!

Cool

Hey everyone,
I'm on vacation in Taormina and I can't go a day without checking up to see if there's any news about the new album.
I hate to go off topic but what an incredibly beautiful place Taormina is for a concert. You have this beautiful theater, originally built by the Greeks in 300 bc, you have Mt Etna cleary visible in the back ground, the peak of which is snow covered this time of year, and you have the beautiful Sicilian coast line off to the other side. It must have been an incredible experience for those who were here and saw Alizée perform back in 2002.
